Alvy Ray Smith cofounded Pixar and Altamira Software. He was the first Director of Computer Graphics at Lucasfilm and the first Computer Graphics Fellow at Microsoft. He has received two technical Academy Awards for his contributions to digital movie-making technology. He is author of A Biography of the Pixel (MIT Press).
